At the inaugural meeting of the Yangtze River Delta Offshore CCUS Industry Alliance held in Shanghai on November 18, 2025, CNOOC (China) Co., Ltd. took the lead in initiating the establishment of the "Yangtze River Delta Offshore CCUS Industry Alliance" together with more than 30 entities including China Baowu, COSCO Shipping, Zhejiang Energy Group, Shenergy Group, Shanghai Energy Efficiency Center, Zhejiang University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
It is learned that CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage), an effective approach for large-scale and deep carbon reduction of fossil energy, serves as a strategic fallback technology to achieve the goals of peaking carbon emissions and carbon neutrality and safeguard national energy security. At present, the Yangtze River Delta boasts concentrated industries and abundant innovation resources, and has laid a certain foundation in CCUS technology research and development as well as industrial application.
The alliance will build a collaborative innovation system featuring "government guidance, enterprise leadership and institutional support". Going forward, it will focus on information sharing, technical exchanges, talent training, policy research, standard formulation, demonstration projects and industrial cultivation. Centering on core key technologies, it will advance the construction of demonstration projects and their commercial and large-scale application, jointly develop an offshore CCUS demonstration zone, and offer solid support for the green and low-carbon transition of the Yangtze River Delta.
